Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers denounces the repression of its peaceful rallies

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Jan 16, 2012 (SPS) - The Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers (CSTS) denounced Sunday in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, the brutal repression committed against its members during a peaceful rally in solidarity with Saharawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik, in a statement a copy of it reached SPS.

The Confederation called for need to release all the Saharawi political prisoners, including those who arrested on the ground of Gdeim Izik camp, calling on the international community to dispatch an international commission of inquiry into the squalid economic, social and political conditions in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

It appealed to Spain, as the former colonizing power of Western Sahara, to assume its historic responsibilities towards the ongoing situation in the Territory, urging the new Spanish government to respond to the legitimate rights of the Saharawis.

It should be recalled that CSTS organized, in coordination with Gdeim Izik Coordination, the rally outside what is called Moroccan National Council for Human Rights in the occupied city of El Aaiun

Postponement the trail of Gdeim Izik detainees for indefinite date “unjustified”, says Saharawi organization

Rabat, Jan 14, 2012 (SPS) - The Collective of the Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) said that the postponement of the trail of Gdeim Izik detainees for indefinite date by Rabat military court “is not justified.”

“This military trail is an exceptional judgment, because it prejudices the terms of a fair trial, given that all detainees are civilians, including members of the dialogue committee delegate for Sahrawis exodus in Gdeim Izik camp as well as Saharawi defenders of human rights,” said a communiqué of the Collective of the Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA).

The Moroccan authorities have been postponed trails of the Saharawi political prisoners, which is one of the Moroccan regime’s practices in his dealing with the Saharawi human rights activists within its policy of procrastination.

Dozens Saharawis injured after violent intervention by Moroccan forces in occupied El Aaiun

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Jan 14, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi masses, who were observing Friday a peaceful sit-in in the occupied city of El Aaiun to drop the charges fabricated against Gdeim Izik political detainees, has subjected to violent interventions by the Moroccan forces of occupation, leaving dozens injured, informed a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.

These brutal interventions left at least Saharawis 40 injured, including 10 serious cases which was speedily transferred to hospital.

The Saharawi masses framed by the Gdeim Izik Coordination of Saharawi Marginalized Groups were peacefully protested before what is called the Moroccan National Council of Human Rights in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, before they surprisingly dispersed by force by the Moroccan intelligence services and prevented from continuing the demonstration.

The intervention had been supervised by the Moroccan executioner Basha aiming to discourage the militants to continue the sit-in and dispersed them by force, whereas the second police order was to brutally intervene against Saharawi women, elderly, children and youth.

In relevant context, the group of the Moroccan executioner Abd El-Ali, known as Azwa, arrested many minors and young Saharawi, where they quickly taken.

UPyD: Mariano Rajoy called to take firm position on Western Sahara conflict

Madrid, Jan 14, 2012 (SPS) - Union, Progress and Democracy (Spanish acronym: UPyD) has called on the President of the Spanish new government, Mr. Mariano Rajoy, to take “a firm position on the settlement of Western Sahara conflict.”

In a communiqué issued Thursday, the Chief of the UPyD’s Foreign Policy, Mr. Fernando Maura, urged the president of the new Spanish government to take a firm position concerning the conflict of Western Sahara, during his forthcoming visit the Kingdom of Morocco.

“President of Spanish government must put on table the need for Moroccan Kingdom to comply with the UN resolutions on Western Sahara. On the contrary, Rajoy’s visit to Morocco will be visit of loyalty. This habit, which does not comply with the atmospheres of advanced democracy, should be abandoned,” the statement asserted.

UPyD stressed, indicating the communiqué, on the importance to change the position of the successive Spanish governments towards the relations with Morocco, especially with regard to the Western Sahara conflict.

UPyD hoped in this regard that the Spanish Popular Party (PP) would live up to its promise of working for the organization of self-determination referendum, which had declared last year by Mr. Jorge Moragas, secretary of international relations of the PP, before a Saharawi delegation.

In relevant context, UPyD recalled the Spanish Minister of Agriculture and Nutrition, Mr. Miguel Arias Cañete, which is currently visiting Brussels that the waters of Western Sahara “must remain out of any agreement between the EU and Morocco.”

State Minister to represent President of Republic in inauguration of Mr. Daniel Ortega

Managua (Nicaragua), Jan 8, 2012 (SPS) - The Member of National Secretariat of the Frente Polisario and State Minister, Mr. Bashir Mustapha Sayed, will represent the President of the Saharawi Republic, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, in the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected Nicaraguan President, Mr. Daniel Ortega, according to the SADR Embassy in Nicaragua.

Mr. Ortega, 66 years old, will assume a new five-year term after being reelected in the elections of 6 November. Ortega's inauguration will take place in the Revolution Square on Tuesday, in the old center of Managua, where the National Assembly will be installed.

Nicaragua recognized the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic on September 6, 1979, and currently maintains diplomatic relations at the highest level

Delegation of IWMF visits the Saharawi refugee camps

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), Jan 8, 2012 (SPS) - The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is making a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps in order to see the situation of the Saharawi refugees.

SPS learned that the delegation consist of four people including the IWMF’s President, Ms. Maria Cruz.

It will held meetings with members of the National Secretariat of the Frente Polisario and government, in order to be informed on the status quo of the Saharawi cause and situation of the Saharawi refugees.

It will also make field visits to various national institutions and Wilayas including the Ministry of Information, the headquarters of the National Television and Media Archive and others.

A conference on the national experience in the media field will be organized Wednesday at headquarters of the Ministry of Information, in the presence of the American delegation

IAJUWS calls on international observers to attend the trail of Saharawi prisoners of Gdeim Izik

UESARIO strongly condemns Moroccan authorities’ abuse on the Saharawi students at Casablanca University

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), Nov 26, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi Union of Students (UESARIO) has strongly condemned the blatant abuse committed by the Moroccan occupation authorities against the Saharawi students and expelling them from study on the ground of their attachment to Saharawi people’s right to self-determination.

In a statement issued Thursday, the Union underlined “when we strongly follow-up the developments on the student scene in the occupied part of our country and inside Moroccan universities, we renew our strong indignation and condemnation to such blatant abuse.”

The Union called on all its components everywhere to show solidarity with the Saharawi students who are still protesting at the Casablanca University, drawing attention of all the partners including international students, youth and trade unions organizations “for the immediate act to pressurize Moroccan occupation state, stop its systematic attack on the defenseless Saharawi students and its violation of their legitimate rights to express their attitudes and opinions about their political cause as well as respecting their right to continue the study.”

It also expressed deep regret on the international community’s disregard to the ongoing gross human rights violations in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
“Despite the Moroccan state continuation to encroach the spirit of the international Charter and law that guarantee the free expression of opinions and positions as well as the legitimacy to claim for the legitimate rights including the right to follow-up study, the international community is still ignoring the adoption of an international mechanism to monitor human rights and report it in the Territory,” asserted the statement.

The Moroccan occupation authorities has been carrying out a huge campaign of oppression and abuse against the Saharawi students at the Casablanca University, who are currently holding a sit-in to demand their legitimate right to register in the academic year 2011-2012. (SPS)

Polisario Front hopes a positive role from Spain with the new government

Algiers, Nov 26, 2011 (SPS) - The Polisario Front’s Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Ahmed Boukhari, expressed Thursday his hope that electing a new government in Spain “would open a new page of relations with the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic.”

In an interview with Algeria’s International Radio, Mr. Boukhari wished that the election of a new government in Spain under the leadership of the Popular Party (right) “will open the door towards a new positive role played by this country.”

He said “there is a new opportunity for such change on the Spanish political arena,” adding “I suppose this role will be positive and effective, unlike the role of the former government (Socialist Party) which was negative and in favor of the Moroccan proposals.”

The Saharawi diplomat denounced in the same regard the French position towards the Saharawi cause and pressures exerted by France, in particular through its Veto, over the European countries and its backing to Moroccan occupation in order to disrupt the efforts and acts of solidarity with the Saharawi cause.

He recalled that the Saharawi cause has a great support in the world, regretting for the fact that the battle “is limited in Europe at the level of parliaments, mass-media and various non-governmental organizations for the defense of human rights, highlighting that this pressure “will lose its effectiveness over time with the economic circumstance hitting Europe due to the political changes of some European countries.

Concerning the issue of human rights, the Polisario Representative indicated that there is international understanding on Morocco’s violation to human rights in a clear and brutal mode in Western Sahara, insisting for the protection of the Saharawi population especially through the establishment of a mechanism to monitor human rights and to denounce all violations within the international organs.

He pointed out that all attempts that fall in this context hampered the position adopted by France, and thus denied the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination.

He therefore denounced the illegitimate exploitation of Western Sahara wealth by Morocco with the complicity of some European countries, stressing on the need to find a solution to this issue in order to put an end to these abuses. (SPS)

British NGO calls for protecting human rights in occupied Dakhla

London, October 10, 2011 (SPS) Western Sahara Campaign in Britain, is calling to sign a petition urging the UN to protect human rights in Dakhla and investigate the events in this city, said Saturday in London Mr. Ken Ritchie, Executive Member of the organization.

"We urge the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to conduct an urgent investigation in Dakhla to shed light on the events in the city under siege since September 25, and put a mechanism for monitoring human rights in order to stop the abuses perpetrated against the Saharawi people ", he said.

Mr. Ritchie also asked for the expansion of the mandate of the UN mission for the referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to monitor human rights in the Saharawi occupied territories.

Several influential British personalities, including parliamentarians, politicians and trade union leaders, signed the petition, in particular Lord Avebury, Cathy Jamieson (member) and Dave Prentis, general secretary of UNISON, one of the three largest British trade unions.

"A copy of this message will be sent to British Foreign Minister, William Hague, and the British government to call for greater influence within the UN Security Council to find a solution to the conflict based on the principles of the international law that respects the will of the Saharawi people," Mr. Ritchie added.

Mr. Ritchie regretted the "biased" position of France on the Western Sahara issue, which he said "was due to its economic interests in the region." (SPS)

The term peace has got abroad meaning, but it can be simply defined as
the situation when people live together sharing their common
interests, collaborating with each other in various domains such as
economic, social and culture keeping away all kinds of wars, conflicts
and disagreements, but the real question is: how can we deal
successfully with difficult situations especially in wars and
conflicts?

Well, for me this subject is truly personal, because of what my people
are living nowadays , and what made it worse is that they are being
abused by who are supposed to be brothers , but anyway what is
important is that each one of us have to participate from his/her side
to cope with this conflict, because the real problem is not in the
conflict itself but in the way to deal with it , we have to be logic
in dealing with conflicts and try to solve them in the best peacefully
way,” peace is in our hands, we can do it” Kofi Annan .

It is really that is a little bit difficult to deal with complicated
conflicts, but what we have to do is gather our efforts and try to
promote peace, there is so many conflicts in the world that must be
dealt peacefully with, I’m sure that doing our best we will finish
with them and promote peace all over the world, “it isn’t enough to
talk about peace, one must believe it. And it isn’t enough to believe
in it, one must work for it “Eleanor Roosevelt.

In the end we hope a peaceful solution for our just question that may
allow western sahara people to take their right of auto determination
and independence.

Saharawi President consoles his Chilean counterpart following plane crash accident

Council of Ministers strongly condemns repression of Saharawi citizens in occupied Western Sahara

Shahid Al Hafed (refugee camps) Sept 4, 2011 (SPS) - The Council of Ministers strongly condemned Saturday the serious violations of human rights perpetuated against the Saharawis in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, especially El Aaiun and Boujdour, hailing struggles of the Saharawi masses in the occupied territories and south of Morocco, in a statement concluded a meeting chaired by the President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.

The statement asserted that the Saharawi masses in the occupied territories “have consistently made continued heroics in the face of campaigns of brutal repression and solid blockade, as well as acts of abduction, torture and intimidation,” expressing strong condemnation to all gross violations of human rights carried on by the Moroccan occupation authorities, which recently and dramatically increased in the occupied cities of El Aaiun and Boujdour.

The Council recalled to the case of the Martyr Said Danbar, whose corpse is yet to bury due to the intransigence of the Morocco occupation authorities and its refusal to reveal the circumanstances behind his assassination and to assume full responsibility for the crime.

It also noted that Morocco’s continuation to practice the same repressive policies, which accompanied its military invasion of Western Sahara on Oct 31, 1975, its attack on Gdeim Izik camp on Nov 8, 2010 and others, confirms “the reality of its intransigence and refusal to implement UN Charter and resolutions as well as the international humanitarian law, calling in this regard on the international community to immediately take all necessary steps, measures and sanctions on Morocco to stop its violations of human rights and its looting to the Saharawi natural resources.

The Council reiterated the call to accelerate the establishment of UN mechanism enabling MINURSO to protect and monitor human rights in Western Sahara and report about it, release Yahia Mohamed Hafed and all the Saharawi political detainees in the Moroccan prisons, reveal the fate of more than 651 Saharawi missings and remove the Moroccan military wall (Berm) which contains millions of internationally banned mines, including anti-personnel. Saharawi government welcomes statements of Libyan TNC’s president

Bir Lehlou (liberated territories) Sept 2, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi government and Polisario Front has welcomed the statements issued on Aug 29, 2011 by Mustafa Abdeljalil, president of the Libyan Transitional National Council (TNC), which categorically denied the allegations published by the Moroccan Press Service (MAP) claiming the presence of Saharawi fighters in Libya along with Gaddafi, said the Ministry of Information.

The statement said that Mustafa Abdeljalil’s speech reflects a “high degree of responsibility and wisdom which would consolidate the bonds of brotherhood and friendship existing between the two brotherly peoples. It also reflects a sincere keenness to the supreme interest of the two people and peoples of the region as a whole.”

The statement said that these attempts aim “to sow poisons, disputes and dissensions in the interest of goals, which are contrary to the rights of peoples and their will of freedom, dignity, democracy and peace.”

The Sahrawi government and the Polisario Front had previously denounced, in a statement, claims reported by the Moroccan official press service on Aug 25, 2011 about “the arrest of 556 mercenaries from the Polisario Front have been brought in to support Gaddafi troops,” calling for an urgent independent inquiry into these serious allegations. South Sudan to move capital to Ramciel

Juba (South Sudan) Sept 4, 2011 - The government of newly-independent South Sudan has decided to relocate its capital from Juba to a more central location in Lakes state, a senior official said on Sunday.
"The council of ministers has decided that the capital city will be relocated from Juba," the government's secretary general Abdon Agaw told AFP, adding the new capital would be located in Ramciel, in Lakes state.
The decision, taken on Friday, has to be approved by the parliament of South Sudan, which gained its independence July 9, and is unlikely to result in any imminent change as the new capital would have to be built from scratch.
But the move has been mulled for months and the country's information minister, quoted by local media, has said the relocation process would be completed within about six years.
Agaw said authorities in Central Equatoria, of which Juba is the state capital, had refused to provide the land required by the government for the city's expansion.
Ramciel is an area which lies between the three main regions of the world's newest nation: Greater Equatoria, Greater Upper Nile and Greater Bahr al-Ghazal.
The existing capital, in the far south, was left in ruins by the decades of conflict between Khartoum and southern rebels when it served as a government garrison town.
But despite the lack of basic infrastructure, including reliable power, water and sewage systems, it has thrived in recent years, witnessing a rapid construction boom.
Juba has drawn entrepreneurs from around the world as well as a small army of international aid agency and UN workers.
